The demolition eliminates blight along the busy thoroughfare in the Watt Avenue Redevelopment Project Area and makes way for a new Golden Corral restaurant owned by a national chain that operates another restaurant in Elk Grove and two others in Tracy and El Centro. The theater was forced to close due to non-conformance with County zoning code. The new 14,000 square foot building will create 130 local jobs. SHRA (www.shra.org) assisted the project with a $332,000 purchase of surplus property that will provide a development opportunity adjacent to the restaurant. # # #
