GREENFAIR DEVELOPMENT SITE

Photo of Greenfair HOA buildingGreenfair is an approximately 30-acre site located at Broadway and Fairgrounds Drive in the Tahoe Park neighborhood of the City of Sacramento.  Greenfair was originally built as a mixed income community using experimental housing construction by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under their “Operation Breakthrough” program in the late 1960s.  Due to the experimental nature of the construction techniques and components, most of the homeowner units at Greenfair experienced structural problems and in the late 1990s, HUD began purchasing back and demolishing most of the homeowner units.

Overview map of Greenfair - Click for enlarged view In September 2004, the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) acquired the 153 HUD owned lots at Greenfair, and since has acquired six additional properties from private owners.  In May 2005, SHRA released a Request for Qualifications to find a private development team to facilitate a redevelopment of the site with a new, mixed income residential neighborhood.  In October 2005, the seven member selection committee selected Greenfair Village Partners, LLC as the development team to work with the community and City on this redevelopment project. The Greenfair redevelopment process will include many opportunities for community participation.  You can access the development team’s website for up to date information on their proposal and upcoming community meetings at www.greenfairvillage.com.

Please review the attached staff reports, visioning process results and maps for additional information about SHRA’s involvement with the redevelopment of Greenfair.  This website will also serve as a means to notify the community about upcoming events, public hearings and informational sessions regarding Greenfair, so check back often

If you have any questions about the Greenfair redevelopment project, please contact Christine Weichert or Kelly Korver at SHRA.  Christine Weichert can be reached at (916)440-1353 or cweichert@shra.org.  For media information, please contact Angela Jones at (916) 440-1355 or ajones@shra.org.
