What is the purpose of the security deposit?
When a program participant moves out of the unit, the owner may use the
security deposit as reimbursement for any unpaid rent payable by the tenant, and
damages to the unit or for other amounts the participant may owe under the
lease.
What is the maximum amount of security deposit a landlord can charge a
Housing Choice Voucher Participant?
An owner may charge the program up to two months contract rent for
unfurnished units and up to three months contract rent for furnished units.
Is the cost of the security deposit covered under the Housing Choice Voucher
Program?
At the present time the cost of the security deposit is the responsibility of
the program participant.
In the very near future, the Sacramento Housing Authority will be
implementing a Security Deposit Loan Program to assist program participants in
paying security deposits.
