Collecting Rent

Parent  ]
It is the owner/agent's responsibility to collect the tenant portion of the rent. Initially, the Housing Specialist, or Housing Inspector will tell you the amount the tenant will need to pay.

From time to time that amount may change. The Housing Assistance Payment may change as the family's income changes, at annual recertification, or if the owner increases the contract rent.

When this happens, the family and the owner/agent will be sent a Subsidy Adjustment Notice in the mail. The Subsidy Adjustment Notice will state the current contract rent amount, tenant portion, and Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) amount. The notice will also state the new amounts, and the effective date of the change.

If you receive a Subsidy Adjustment Notice, and you have a question, contact the Housing Specialist assigned to your client.
