Waiting List Preferences

The Housing Authority will rank preferences to prioritize applicants that are on the Waiting List.

Effective January 1, 2004 the following preferences will be implemented:

Residency preference: For families who live or work in Sacramento County.
Permanent Disability preference: For families who have a member with a permanent disability.
Rent burden preference for families whose rent burden (documented rent and utilities) exceed 50% of gross income.

Changes in an applicant’s circumstances while on the waiting list may affect the family’s preference. Applicants are required to notify the Housing Authority when a family’s household changes.

All preferences claimed by a family will be verified prior to the family receiving a voucher.

Applicants with equal preferences will be placed in order by date and time.

If the Housing Authority denies a preference, the Housing Authority will notify in writing the reasons why the preference was denied and offer the applicant an opportunity for an informal meeting with designated staff.

If an applicant falsifies documents or makes false statements in order to qualify for any preference, they will be removed from the Waiting List.
