Meeting of May 19, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 5:37 p.m.

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS –

Workreation Presentation

Cheryl Rose of the City of Sacramento’s Department of Parks and Recreation presented this item to the committee. The City’s Youth Workreation Program is an eight-week summer youth development program. Youth are given vocational training though volunteer projects and clean up projects. One summer crew is assigned to the Franklin Blvd. Redevelopment Area (funded through Community Development Block Grant funds). Ms. Rose solicited projects from the committee for the youth crews to work on in summer 2004.

8-Unit Townhouses Development at 6440 46^th Street

Leim Huynh, County Planning applicant, presented this item to the committee. He reviewed his plan for the development at 6440 46^th Street. The development will be a two-story structure consisting of 8 townhouses each approximately 1300 sq. ft. of living space (3 bedrooms and 1 car garage). The applicant is the owner of the property and plans to manage the construction of the townhouses. The committee commented that there will be a need for an on-site manager since these units will be rental. The committee also commented that under a general contractor’s license, the contractor may not do plumbing and electrical work – these items must be sub-contracted. It was recommended that the applicant speak with someone from County Planning regarding the building requirements.

2005-2009 Implementation Plan Project Brainstorming Discussion

This item was continued to the June 9^th RAC meeting.

Update Regarding Other Redevelopment Projects, Programs and Activities

Tricia Powers presented this item. The following updates were given:

The Deeble Street project would be underway in June.

The Michoacan Supermarket has an application in at the City for permits. This market will be located in the newly renovated Food City building that has been sitting vacant for some time.

Both Caballo Blanco and the Food King are participating in the Commercial Revitalization Program and are working on renderings of the buildings with architects.

The Franklin Streetscape project is still in a design phase. Expected completion of construction is fall 2005.

The North City Farms Streetlighting project came in under budget. The remaining $129,000 was reprogrammed along with an additional $11,000 and deposited into the Fruitridge Road Street Improvements funds which had $20,000 available. This money will be combined with funds available at City Public Works to do a street improvement project at the intersection of Franklin and Fruitridge Road (pedestrian safety and beautification).

VII COMMUNICATION FROM RAC AND PUBLIC ON ITEMS NOT OTHERWISE ON THE AGENDA

Chairperson Darrin Pradie announced this would be his last meeting as a RAC member. He has relocated his business to a location outside of the redevelopment area and has also moved into another home outside of the redevelopment area. Members and people from the audience thanked Darrin for his longtime commitment to the RAC.
