WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Built in 1967, Florin Mall closed its doors on February 28, 2006 to
begin undergoing a transformation to reemerge as Florin Towne Centre by
the 2007 holiday season. The developer is South Sac LLC. The center will
be an open air shopping center anchored by the existing Sears store and a
relocated (from Southgate Plaza) Wal-Mart. The Wal-Mart will be a super
center (218,500 square feet) which will provide the neighborhood with a
grocery store. The Florin Road Partnerships’ Winter 2005 newsletter
reports that “the Centre will also house five midsized stores and 75 to 80
smaller shops and restaurants selling clothing, shoes, and other
convenience goods. The smaller shops will provide the Centre’s unique
feel and be representative of the diverse ethnic demographics of the
neighborhood.”
