The City and County of Sacramento encourage community participation in the development of the five-year Consolidated Plans.  There are two plans:  one for the City of Sacramento and the other is for the County of Sacramento.

Four primary methods were used to solicit public input for development of the draft Consolidated Plans:

  1. Focus group meetings were held in June 2006 so that social service providers and City and County departments that provide facilities and services to City and County residents could provide input for the Consolidated Plan.
  2. Community meetings were held where participants were introduced to the Consolidated Plan process and asked to discuss community needs.  Meetings were conducted during the months of June through August 2006.
  3. Resident surveys, which assessed housing and community development needs, were distributed at public meetings and public locations and were made available online on the City’s, County’s and SHRA’s websites from May 2006 to August 2006.
    • The survey was prepared in five languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Russian).  The survey was hand delivered or mailed to the following groups and facilities:
      • Career centers
      • Community and senior centers
      • Housing Choice Voucher office and public housing resident committees
      • Locally owned businesses
      • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
      • Public libraries
      • Redevelopment advisory committees
      • Service providers and advocacy groups
      • Social clubs and organizations of many types
      • Various community tasks forces
    • A total of 2,094 surveys were received and evaluated as part of the development of the draft Consolidated Plans.
  4. The Consolidated Plans are currently being drafted and will be available for public comment on September 24, 2007.  The public comment period is from September 24, 2007 to October 23, 2007. The following Boards will hear comments on the Plans on these dates:
      • October 3, 2007 – Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Commission as a business item.
      • October 23, 2007 – Sacramento City Council and the Sacramento Board of Supervisors to hear public comments.
